Thought I could get there in Safe Mode, might someone give me directions?
Appreciate it.

Greetings --

Only you know what motherboard and BIOS you have, so only you know
the answer to your question. ;-}

In the extremely unlikely event that your PC's manual doesn't
contain the needed information, try one or more of the following:

How do I access my computer's setup (BIOS)
http://www.iomega.com/support/documents/2157.html

Wim's BIOS Page
http://www.wimsbios.com/

Accessing Motherboard BIOS
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/bios_manufacturer.htm

You should also be aware that it's very easy to render, at least
temporarily, your PC unbootable by making an incorrect change in the
BIOS. So be very careful.

Thanks much Bruce. I seem to have eyes but cannot see. I've been having real
problems with black screen at start up which remains black even as Windows
loads and after. I've done a Repair Install per KB 314503 which didn't cure
the problem. Someone on here suggested the BIOS might be messed up and to
check it to see if the date and time are correct., not set to 00:00. Knowing
just enough to be dangerous, I'd be terrified to mess with BIOS, just wanted
a look see. I have looked for Driver updates for 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee without
success.
Appreciate the links to gave me.

Dave R;
Save yourself some time. I wasted all kinds of time with that SOB.
Screwing around trying to update drivers, etc. Do what I did and get rid of
your 3Dfx Voodoo Banshee. Drop that baby like a hot potato. I did that before
I got XP. Now if I hadn't gotten a @#$ Creative Sound Card. I have to dump
this piece of mung next.

The very first thing you want to do when you access your BIOS, is have paper and
pencil handy. Write down every setting.

Hi Wes, good to hear from you again. While I have yet to access BIOS ( I
didn't even know I needed the Motha board name), not a typo :--) it sounds
like we have the same set up. Mine's a nearly 5 year old Gateway. As you no
doubt know, 3Dfx Interactive, Inc. appears to have gone belly up, apparently
for good reason. Does one have to replace the mother board to get rid of
3Dfx and does a VGA BIOS version 1.00.04-ET sound right ? Appreciate your
advise to "Deep 6" it and for sending me your BIOS information. If I ever
find mine it will be interesting to compare them. Having a black screen is
like flying on instruments with a blanket over the panel. Crash and burn.
Once again I thank you, you've been very helpful.
Dave

Hi Dave;
If you want to waste time;
http://www.voodoofiles.com/

I honestly don't remember my old VGA BIOS version or where I might have that
info right now. Found it. 1.00.03 No, you do not have to replace the Mobo if
you have enough system slots, PCI, AGP or ISA (is a dog). You don't even have
to pull the cover, Aida32 can tell you this. You just disable the device in the
BIOS and remove whatever jumpers or leads. I don't remember exactly right now.

The worst that can happen accessing the BIOS, is your machine will burst
into flames. :o)
My machine: Model: G6-450 Ship Date: 11/16/1998 My 3dfx Voodoo was in
the AGP slot. I had an onboard Ensoniq/Creative Sound device, which I disabled.
------------
Gateway has some nifty features here:
http://support.gateway.com/support/default.asp
You don't even have to know the Serial #, they have a download that will look it
up for you. :o)
Get Aida32 here:
http://www.aida32.hu/aida-download.php?bit=32

Get the Belarc Advisor here:
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html#tips
-----------------
Do you still have your Gateway System Restoration CD? If you do, stick it
in your CD drive. If Autorun doesn't start. Open My Computer, right click that
drive and click Explore. Double click Autorun.exe. Click the Documentation
tab/click the Online Documentation button to view. Scroll through and look for
your system board.
Or if you have the same board as I do, look for D:\Doc\8503592\3592.htm
This is a 24 page Technical Reference. On page 15 the BIOS Setup Utility
instructions starts. Lots of info!!!
If you do have the same board as I do. Here's a tip: Battery Maxell CR2032
3 Volt Radio Shack Part # 23-162. ;o)
