Can't find internet connection for updates

When I try to search for updates the microsoft spyware
can't find an internet connection although the internet
is working fine.
 
Retry every so often--there are transient server end issues that cause this
message.

I encountered the same problem on my XP SP2 PC, although
the internet connection is on (an ADSL broadband line).
BUT my other machine running Win 2000 pro and sharing the
same internet connection has no problem to update.
I tried to open the XP SP2 firewall to the MS Antispyware
(as an exception): no success.
MS XP SP2 support suggested me to... "uninstall the
Antispyware, since a Beta version may still have some
incompatibilities". I cannot believe that would be the
only solution !
