can't find "Exchange"

When I try to install Outlook from my MS Office 97 disk,
the program apparently sets up, but as soon as I try to
use it, I get error messages about not finding a
subdirectory "Exchange" and not finding a "pst"(?)address
book. I do have Outlook Express operating with a "wab"
address book. Help? TIA!

Before you start Outlook, go to Control Panel | Mail. Remove the Exchange Server service, and add a Personal Folders file. You may also want to download the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch; see http://www.slipstick.com/addins/services/imep.htm
