Can't find DNS Record

We have 2 domains. A parent and a child. I built the server and it had a DHCP
address. Then I made the IP static and joined the child domain.

Now from the parent domain I ping the server by name and it shows the DHCP
address but can ping the FQDN and it resolves as it should.

I deleted the DHCP record and deleted the name from Wins on all DC's. I can
not find out where this is coming from. Anyone have any ideas how to delete
this record. It has been there for 5 days now.

Thanks for looking.

You said you deleted the DHCP record. Do you mean you deleted the record in
the DHCP console?

Did you delete the DNS host record too?

I did not find a Host A record for it in DNS. I looked everywhere
for it.

Let's go back to your original post and address each point you made, please.

domain.

Is there RRAS on this machine too?
Is there a HOSTS or LMHOSTS file with the name in it?

Now from the parent domain I ping the server by name and it shows the
DHCP address but can ping the FQDN and it resolves as it should.

How exactly did you ping it? Did you ping it by single name (NetBIOS name)
or the FQDN?

Can you post an ipconfig /all so we can see the search sufffix please?
I deleted the DHCP record

From where, the DHCP console?
and deleted the name from Wins on all DC's.

Each DC is a WINS server?
I can not find out where this is coming from. Anyone have any ideas
how to delete this record. It has been there for 5 days now.

Can you also post an ipconfig /displaydns please.

Thanks

Ace
