Hi,

I have an IBM thinkpad running Win200 pro and show a modem installed and
functioning properly as shown in Device Manager. I cannot see the dialup
adapter
entry in the networking section and cannot create a dialup connection to my
ISP.

Any clues as to why I don't have dialup adapter in my network section ?

Bill

I don't believe the modem will show up there - you need to use the
connection wizard to make a dial-up connection.

I've tried internet connection wizard- I get through the whole

thing until it asks for a name. ANYTHING I type gives me the

error: "any characters can be used except for a leading <space>;

name invalid." I'm sure that the name is valid, but nothing I

type is accepted. Why?

I don't know why this would be, and would suspect that dial-up networking is
damaged. Nor am I sure how one could fix this. Perhaps someone else can
chime in.

Sounds like a virus infection. Or maybe one of those stupid hacks that
some internet providers include in their setup software that prevents
users from creating their own generic internet connections.
