I have a box with an ASUS P4P800-E mobo - P4 3.0G. I have Win2k installed.
Everything is fine that-a-way.

Now - I removed the drive with Win2k and installed a 4.2G Fireball. My
intent is to load Win98SE onto the 4.2G drive. When booting to DOS from
Win98 floppy, with CDROM support, the CDROM drive is not found. I did
change the BIOS to use "compatible mode" and no SATA. Still no CDROM device
found. BIOS reports the CDROM on Secondary IDE as Master, so I know the
BIOS is seeing it.

ideas?

thanks

C = your HD, D = your FD boot virtual Ram drive; E = CD rom.
To check: type E:\ Enter /you will see than in a new line E:\> /
type dir to list files & folders on CD ....

W98 boot/install doesn't see all CDROMS, whether BIOS detects 'em or not.
Once the OS is installed the CDROM is present, so for the install process try
using a dfferent model/make.

In Spajky <Spajky##@volja.net> walked into the bar with a grape in each nostril

Yes, knew that part. Turns out that this problem is peculiar to this mobo.
In a
different case, same CDROM & HDD, different mobo, everything worked fine.
Got Win98 loaded onto the HDD and the world again has a rose-colored tint.
Still puzzled about the ASUS P4P800 mobo and it's BIOS, though. One of
these days when I'm feeling particularly adventurous I'll try to suss it
out.

Thanks for the help.
