I have a new Toshiba P35 laptop and whenever I try to burn a CD using Windows
Movie Maker I get a message that it can not find a cd drive. In the help
files it says to remove the Imapi.exe from the task manager but this is not
there either. What can I do.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for te reply
The Imapi was not on and was set to manual. I set it to Auto, restarted the
laptop and tried again, same problem I then checked to if it was on and it
was still get the message "A recordable CD drive was not detected.
Should I leave the Imapi on or off?
Have you any other suggestions?
I can burn music using Nero but Movie maker seems much easier to use.

Thanks again

Thanks I will check the articles further but as I say I can use the burner in
Nero but not from Movie Maker.
Also please should the Imapi be left on or off?

Mine is set to Manual, but I've never burned CDs from either XP or
MovieMaker. I have Roxio, WinDVD Creator and a few other third party
applications installed.

Error: Can not complete the CD writing wizard.

This error message may occur if the IMAPI CD Burner service is turned
off. To resolve this issue, make sure that the service is running and that
it has not been turned off. By default, the service is set to Manual. Start
the IMAPI CD Burner service, and then test it by writing to a CD-R or a
CD-RW. If the service works, you may have to set the service to
Automatic if it does not start in Manual mode. To set the service to

Automatic, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc /s in the Open box,
and then click OK.
2. Double-click IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service.
3. Under Service Status, click Start.
4. Try to write data to a CD.

Anyone know what you do if this does not work ?

OP couldn't find cd writer, but my CD writer won't work with the XP
integrated burning.

Thanks John,

I have tried all your links, whats annoying is integrated burning just
decided to stop working, a couple of weeks ago, and nothing that I do will
get it going again.

I prefer integrated burning to third party burning which is what I have
been using for last couple of weeks, bloody computers !

I have been over to AumHa forum, similar links and they got me to remove
some reg filters in cd burning, but still no luck, very stubbon problem.

Solved my problem of no integrated cd burning from explorer by reading your
problem in this post. I tryed to burn from movie maker, it works, and now
explorer burning works too, great !, movie maker cd burning must have told
explorer to get its act together. LOL

If you have HighMAT extension try:

Check if you have "HighMAT extension to Microsoft Windows xp cd writing
wizard" v1.1.1905.1 (2.13MB) installed and if so click repair option from add
and remove programs in the control panel.

After you have tried every thing else, just maybe see if you can burn from
explorer, you probably can, its just that you can not from movie maker, on my
movie maker2 burning page a HighMAT symbol is shown.

I can burn Normal or HighMAT from either Explorer or Movie Maker2.
