On XP computer A, can get files from other computers B, C, D. But when on other computers (B, C, D), can't get files from computer A. Message says "A is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." How do I fix this problem on A. Computers B, C, and D have the same configuration as A

Thanks in advance

One possibility is a firewall on PC A. Either a 3rd party
or windows ICF - check the Advanced tab of the connection
properties and ensure ICF is unchecked.

I have exactly the same problem. Sharing used to work
fine. Was running Zone alarm, but uninstalled the
program. ICF is disabled, but it sure acts like the
firewall is still in place.

On the XP computer ( if it the Pro version ) there is a little feature that you can turn off as it has caused problems for network access. Open an explore window and from the menu bar choose "folder options" select the view tab and scroll to the bottom and uncheck the box for "simple file sharing" then see if the other computers can now acces the XP shares.
Good luck.

I have the same problem too. I have tried the following on fixing the
problem but all of them can't work:

1. Running Network Setup Wizard with different configuration.
2. Enable/Disable firewall.
3. Checking/Unchecking simple file sharing as BobJC suggested.

I also found that there are three possible situation on logging into
computers of my network:
1. Not accessible (as that of banknotes)
2. Only allow guest to log-in: a pop-up message box appears, the user name
is fixed to guest and asking for password for guest
3. Pop-up message box appears asking for username and password.

I am confused on how to setup my computer to have the above behaviour.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help,

Raymond

I was having a very similar problem: 2 computers A & B connected through router. PC A can access files on PC B. But PC B cannot access PC A shared files.
- no firewalls active on either (XP or 3rd party)
- simple file sharing is on (using XP Home)
- file sharing is enabled on both (network properties and for the specific folders)
- am able to see PC A shared folder but can't open or access it from PC B

While I was trying some solutions mentioned on the Web (unshare the folder, then share it again; rerun Network Setup Wizard; etc.) something happened -- another shared folder on my PC A was created in My Network Places, Local Network with the same files as the original shared folder, but with a different name. The new folder on PC A with the new name could be accessed by PC B, while the original still could not.

Then I noticed that the original name of the shared folder on PC A had the same name as the shared folder on PC B: "SharedDocs". The newly created folder had a different share name: "Documents"

Don't know how it happened, but I offer it up as one thing to try. Make sure that the "share name" of a shared folder is unique for each folder from each PC. You find the name on the Properties box for the folder under the Sharing tab in Network sharing and security.

I have fixed the problem by turning ON/OFF the guest account.
