I am having a catastrophic itme transferring files across my wifi network. I
can see my windows 2000 computer from my xp one but when I try to do
anything with it, it crashes the XP computer. And when I try to transfer the
files FROM the 2000 one by dragging aand dropping the files in windows
explorer from the 2000 folder I can see to the xp computer folder I can see,
I am merely told I dont have administrative privileges to do this. Sometimes
it tells me that the network path wasnt found which is a bit odd as I can
see it in Windows Explorer???

So I followed the HELP instructions
1.. Open Network and Dial-up Connections.
2.. Right-click a connection, and then click Properties.
1.. with my local area connection, on the General tab, in Components
checked are used by this connection, click File and Printer Sharing for
Microsoft Networks, and then click Properties. But properties is greyed out
Needless to say no files will transfer either way, either to the XP computer
or from the 2000 computer. And my connection with my 2000 computer DOES have
administrative privileges.

NT and above (2K/XP) have local domains. It is the name of the computer.
Computer1 Administrator and Computer2 Administrator are not the same
accounts even if they have the same password.
They are:
Computer1/Administrator
Computer2/Administrator

When you attempt to connect from one to the other, if will try to
authenticate based upon your current credentials. It will fail with "Access
Denied" if your credentials are not authorized. In a peer-peer network, you
should create duplicate accounts on each system or allow access in your
groups for remote systems. The File and Printer sharing service is only one
part of it.

When you try to connect, if authentication fails, you should be presented
with a dialog box requesting credentials. If you are on Computer2, then you
should put in: Computer1\Administrator and supply Computer1\Administartor's
password. This should allow you access.

When you tell us something doesn't work, that's a little help but not much.
Providing the exact error message let's us see what you see and will
decrease the latency and effort for someone to help you resolve your issue.
