Computers keep me humble.... I recently bought a new one
and it came with XP Home. I cannot, for the life of me,
figure out how to just start typing a document and then
save it where ever I want.

You have to run a word processor to type a letter. Xp comes only with
notepad and wordpad. Click start>programs>accessories and in that list is
notepad and wordpad. (If they were installed).

I highly recommend someone at your level of PC ability...take a class as
soon as possible...your goin have a lot more problem than that....

Report Jack for what appears to be sage advice???? Did I miss something here? If you have a free word processor like Open Office or Abiword or any other good and free programs then once you have finished typeing the letter you can click file on the top tool bar and then save and save as and name it and save it where you want. If you are trying to create a new file then wherever you want it to be created you simply right click and then highlight new and then you will have the options displayed to you. I guess I'm not sure what it is that you really are trying to achieve as this seems ridiculously easy. Good luck.
