I need to send a distribution list. The option to save as VCard is
missing. When I insert item the information is missing on the
recipients computer. I could "save as" .rtf, .msg or .oft, but none of
these formats can be imported into another address book, esp not OE.

Outlook 2000 sp3 CV
Win98 SE

Only Outlook supports DL's natively. To transfer them to another Outlook
user you have to insert them as Outlook items in a message in RTF format.

I've tried that as I prefer plain text. Size of message in sent items,
16k with individual lists 4k and 9k. Size in inbox (I sent to myself)
5k each list c.350 bytes.

Is there a setting that I have wrong that strips the details of the
list?

More importantly why isn't there a way to export DLs?

No one is asking you to set your default message format to RTF. But if you
want the DL to remain intact you must set that one message format to RTF.
Don't ask me why. How would I know?

I did set that message to RTF. It went out correctly. It comes back in
stripped of the necessary information.

"Comes in" where?

Sounds like your recipient is set to receive in plain text. Check to see.

I mentioned earlier that I was sending to myself (as a troubleshooting
exercise). How is it possible to set to receive in plain text?

In some versions of Outlook, sending in plain text is an option in the
Contact Record.

Are you sure you are inserting this as an Outlook Item?

If so, your findings are not reproducible. You need to re-examine your steps
and settings.
