I am using XP home edition. Nortons required boot up in safe mode for
elimination of a virus. After following instructions, I cannot reboot in
standard mode. Using the F8 key it says it is booting in standard mode but
keeps coming up in safe mode. Any suggestions?

Install xp cd,boot to xp cd,recovery, select 1 for C: Press enter for
password,
type:BOOTcfg /default Type:EXIT When thru.

If you used the instructions from this article simply follow
Step 2 under Windows XP:

Start your computer in Safe Mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...410148&nsf=ent-security.nsf&view=docid&seg=hm

Go to Start and click on Run.
Enter msconfig in the Open box.
Click OK.
Click on the Boot.ini tab.
Uncheck Safeboot.
Click OK.
Hit the Restart button

When your computer restarts, a message will be displayed about
running in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode. Put a check
mark in the box next to "Don't show this message or launch the
System Configuration Utility when Windows starts.". Click OK.

Good luck

Norton is well known for causing errors and slowing a computer down.I
had the same problem get bitdefender or Nod32 youll be happier in the
end.I am!:)

Try opening msconfig and enabling all the services that were disables,
if a vital windows service or process is disabled it can lead to the
problem you are having.
