Can't Enable 3-D in PowerPoint XP

Does anyone know how to fully enable 3-D functionality in
PowerPoint XP? When I select an object, and click the 3-D
icon on the drawing bar, everything is "grayed out" so
there's no way to change the object. I've tried everything
mentioned in the Help file -- nothing works. Is this yet
another case of an Office function that has to be
specially selected and separately installed from the
original Office XP disk?
Thanks!

No, the 3D feature is part of every PPT install.

PowerPoint can only apply 3D effects to some kinds of shapes, though.
Select an image or text box and it'll gray out, for example.

Try drawing a rectangle - does 3D become available if the rectangle is the only
selected object?

Steve,

That worked -- thanks very much for your quick assistance!
