I have an HP Scanjet 5470c and used it no problems til I got my new Acer
Laptop with Vista. Now it says "not compatible". I have learned to get around
it somewhat by not using the buttons in the scanner but I am not able to edit
what I've scanned. I get cross hairs instead of curser as if it were read
only. If I can't edit my scanner is of not use to me. Has anyone else had
this problem? Please help if you can.

If you are using the printer driver that comes as part of VISTA HP have
a document which says they do not work under VISTA with that driver.

Since HP themselves do not offer a VISTA driver for what they regard as
an old machine I think you just have to live with it so far as the
scanning is concerned.

What do you mean by
I am not able to edit what I've scanned.

When you scan a document with a scanner it is an image and you cannot
edit the text you see on the screen except in a photo editor. Your
scanner may have come with what is called OCR software which converts
images of documents into editable documents but that is a separate,
third party application that may have come bundled with your scanner --
and very likely does not work under VISTA.
