We have Office Small Business 2003. We cannot open or
edit previously worked on charts or graphs. We tried
installing the update on the website for Office 2003 but
it hasnt worked either.

Can you describe what you mean when you say that the update "hasnt worked
either"? "Hasn't worked" covers a lot of territory. Do you mean that you
couldn't run the update successfully, or do you mean that the update didn't
correct your problem? Are these charts that were created in PowerPoint, or
are they Excel charts?

I could run the update successfully. It said it had been
completed. I rebooted my computer. The update was
supposed to correct my problem - any program (PPT, Word,
Excel, etc) in office where you use art (graphs, charts,
wordart, shapes) could not be edited or opened In this
particular case I was working on powerpoint. I talked
with someone here yesterday and they said it may have to do
with a complication with the norton antivirus software
that came installed on teh computer. It was recommended
that I disable the norton antivirus program. Not sure how
to do this.

Sonia -
I have talked with you in the newsgroup to try to
solve my problem but nothing has improved. I have
disabled the Norton AntiVirus but the error still occurs.
I still cannot open or edit any of the office programs
once a graph or chart has been inserted. This occurs in
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Again, the error reads: "The
server application, source file, or item cant befound, or
returned an unknown error. You may need to reisntall the
server application". I have tried to uninstall and
reinstall Microsoft Office to no avail. I have called the
tech support and nobody is willing to help me with this
problem. I have reservations about paying the $ 35.00 fee
for support when the problem occurs because of faulty
Microsoft software. I have also downloaded and installed
all the latest updates for Office but again, there has
been no resolution. Please let me know what I can do to
get this problem fixed. Thank you.

Is it possible that you did a default installation of Office?
In any case, you might want to try reinstalling, choosing CUSTOM so you can
then verify that MSGraph, the charting component of Office, is really
installed.

Or more directly, start PPT, choose Insert, Chart and see if it works.

In Norton Anti Virus, are you sure you disabled the "Enable Office
Plug-in" by unticking the box, then clicked on OK, then shut down your
computer, then rebooted your computer, and then tried the feature
again?

It worked for me.
