When I try to download Windows XP, it tells me I have more than one operating system. I upgraded to XP and then uninstalled it, I think some of the XP files stayed on my computer. All I had before XP was Windows 98, so it should upgrade as it did the first time, now I can't. I don't want to uninstall Windows 98 and lose all my data, can you help me to figure out what XP files may still be on my computer and delete them

Thanks

I would suggest you back up all files you need prior to any install/upgrade. As for going from 98 to XP. Make sure your computer meets the requirements to be able to run XP(i.e.- memory/hard drive space etc..

It is never good to install one operating system over another. It is better to purchase a full version than an updrade
That being said, lets work with what you have. I would suggest you do the following
After you back everything up- format your hard drive from the DOS start up. You will need a MSDOS boot disc
Second- after formatting- re-install the Win 98. Then install XP. This should give you a clean start with little or n
problems. Good luck.
PS- a web site called The Elder Greek is a very good source for troubleshouting and XP info as is this board.
