Steve

I get this message when I try to import a movie from my camera:

F:\DCIM\200MOVIE\CLIP0005.AVI could not be imported. The required codec was
not downloaded automatically because the Download codecs automatically check
box is not selected in the Options dialog box.

But I don't see any selection of that type in the Options box. Help please.

What's the camera brand and model?

See my website's Import Movie Source Files > Video > AVI page.... files that
can't be imported usually need to be converted to those that can. An AVI
file can be compressed from any of a number of codecs.

It's an Insignia HDDV camera...

It won't import directly into Movie Maker... you'll need to do file
conversion first using other software. My website's Import Movie Source
Files > Video section has suggestions

cavalier wrote. Just a thought Steve, in Movie Maker you did go to
Tools>>Options-----General tab?this is where download codecs check box is

I am so happy because I am having this problem and I SOLVED IT!!!
I would get all these problems:

Only music would play at first.
Then I would get an error message saying Codec Option was not clicked
or something like that...
And then it didn't work at all.

To solve this problem so you can start viewing and editing your
Insignia movie in Windows movie maker 2.6 go to the Options Tab. Click
compatibility and make sure the box that says AVI COMPRESSOR is
UNCHECKED. NO CHECKMARK!
ANd it will work right away. No restart necessary.

Oh i feel so saavy and I'm not good with computers at all. yaay. lol
And now i dont need to return my camera!
==========================
Way-to-go!

Thanks for the info...
