HELP! I sent an email to Microsoft a few weeks ago but didn't recieve a
response, although I was told I would within 24-48 hours. I called a tech a
few days after that and was told an email address for someone who had sent me
an email (presumable my bulk folder dumped it), but this address
([email protected]) doesn't take incoming emails!

My story: I got a message from Mcaffee (my antivirus provider) that they
could not auto-update me as it required Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher. So
I went to Microsoft for a download. I selected the appropriate downloads and
began the process. I remember it saying that one or more of the downloads
needed to be done exclusive to the other(s) I followed the directions given.

My Microsoft Office Toolbar has GROWN, but I cannot download I E 6 Svc Pak.
When I try, I get error message for "le6wzd". then the program tells me the
download is successfully completed, but apparently it really isn't.

I'm not real computer savy, but otherwise fairly intelligent. Would
appreciate any help you can offer!

THANKS ChaChaKelley

Sorry, but this info did not apply to Window 98. There was a choice to
download for a different operating system that the one you are running, and
some for Win 200 etc, but I didn't see any info that applied to my
situation. I have tried to dowload the Svc pak many times without success.

An afterthought: I'm guessing that the error in "le6wzd" gives us some
indication of what the porblem is. What is this? Is it a maintenance or
download wizard? How can I check it out?

What is the exact text of the error message involving le6wzd? That is the
IE 6 setup "wizard". What version of Windows are you using? In your
current install of IE, what does Help...About show as the version? It's
possible that something is interfering with the install of IE....

When installing IE, it's best to first do a power-off reboot, then disable
any anti-virus program you may have running, then do a CTRL+ALT+DEL and End
Task on everything on the list except (Windows) Explorer and Systray. Then
try your install again. This method will help prevent any program you may
have running in the background, and the anti-virus software, from
interfering with the install of IE. Some AV software just plain messes up
an install of IE, and other programs may be using a file that IE needs to
update/replace/remove.

1. Copy/paste the following line into an IE Addressbar, click on GO, then
copy/paste the results into your reply:

javascript:navigator.appMinorVersion

2. Have you been attempting to install IE6 via Windows Update?

To assure a clean, troublefree install of anything (including Windows
Updates), your anti-virus application should be disabled and all other
running processes closed (e.g., IE, mail client, Office) before beginning
the install.

3. If still no joy, see this archived thread about another Win98 user having
the same problem: http://snipurl.com/e4d7
