I can't hook up the cd-rom drive and the hard drive to the same cable
because they are too far away in may case. Surely there must be some way to
make the RAID busses work for IDE devices. Please help. My mobo is a P5GD1.

Thanks.

Set the BIOS to IDE Mode for the ITE8212F.

ITE8212F Controller [IDE Mode]

Try jumpering the CDROM to "Master", then
plug in into the end of the IDE cable, and run
it to the PRI RAID connector.

Now, install media in the CDROM drive. The next
time the computer POSTS, use the F8 key. You should
be able to see the CDROM drive with the CD inside
it, as a boot option.

You could also try messing around with that boot
priority stuff, but I cannot find a good reference
right now for you to read. It might help to have
the CD inside the drive, when trying that.

Advice: RAID is s set (more than 1) of HD's (only HD's).
A mix of HD's together with CD's and/or DVDs is a mess, but not any RAID.
