Working off of WinXP-Pro, in an attempt to close out my windows before
shutting down, can't shut down the adsl connection. Tried doing so
unsuccessfully by disconnecting using the task manager and then shutting
down which only leads to the system hanging at the "saving your settings"
point on the shutdown. Only choice left is to use the power off switch,
obviously an unhealthy practicie. Have checked the MS knowledge base and
tried their fix without success. Using updated anti-spyware, malware, etc
as well as updated Norton anti-virus. Any help would be most appreciated!

You could simply unplug the adsl cord from you computer
or right click on the two small computers on the right
bottom corner of you screen (same place with the clock)

I dont know if u really need to disable the adsl connection before shutting
down. but what i do was when i shut down my computer is that i turn off the
power strip to my computer.
