can't delete temp internet files

When I go into control panel, internet options and try to delete temp files
I get this:
An exception occurred while trying to run "shell32dll, control_runDLL
What do I need to do?? I am using XP Pro

Use the 'sfc /scannow' option from the command prompt to have XP scan your
system to make sure all your system files are intact and automatically
repair them if needed using your XP CD (make sure you have it).
