I have a HP F380 all in 1 printer on an XP machine. Today I couldn't print.
I tried several time then looked and all the items were ready to
print. I decided to cancel them. It canceled all but one. I tried to
print again and no print. I now have 2 documents ready to print. I
cancel again and again it left 1. The one it leaves says it had an
error. How can I cancel this document and make this printer work?
Thank

Hummmm,
Looks like Alex has the same problem as me. I didn't read his post
because it was a different model printer. Recon the problem is the same
even though different models?

try open a command prompt window then type:
net stop spooler

you should get a message that the spooler service has stopped.

If the printer is on, switch it off.
Switch the printer back on.

Open a command prompt window type:
net start spooler

you should get a message that the spooler service has started.

open the printer folder.

double click the printer.

there should be nothing in the printer queue.

It *does* seem like it.

And: Thanks Jasee!

Unfortunately my friend is very inexperienced and he prefers to wait till I
visit him again rather than try this solution himself. I'll try and make a
batch file that does the trick - he could run that easily.

Greetings, Alex

Jasee,
Thanks, I don't know anything about command prompt. Soooo I made a
search on how to command prompt and found out how. I then did what you
said and the printer works.

This did indeed free the stuck job, but the jos were not removed and the
printer started to print them repeating the list again and again!
The solution was radical: un-installing and subsequently installing the printer
using the cd-rom.

That should have removed all the jobs sent to the spooler on your machine.
Lots of printers nowadays seem to have (to my mind) totally unnecessary tool
boxes and other additional programs. Maybe the job(s) were being held there,
somehow. You are not printing in a client/server environment, just to a
locally connected printer?
What printer was it?

That was the HP PSC 1400 ALL in One. Just one printer locally connected to one
notebook. I repeatedly tried to delete the jobs: they stayed where they were!
But my friend is happy now (for the time being??).
