can't delete old version

I had the beta 1 version of Defender on my computer. It just stopped coming
up. I decided to get Defender Beta 2. I tried to install, but it says I
have a previous version running on my CPU that I must first remove. I have
gone to Add/Remove programs and there is nothing there. No Giant, no
defender, nothing that says beta, I reconized all the programs except Panda
active scan. Is that the one I am suppost to remove? If not how do I get
rid of the first version?

Dave M,
Thanks - I check out the other post... However, when I went to filehippo and
found the old version listed. I could figure out how to download it. The
link sent me to microsoft and the newest Defender Beta2 version. Where to I
get the old version?
Thanks for you help... hope you can help further.

Doug;
If it's sending you to Microsoft, you're trying to download Defender Beta
2. You should be trying to download under Old versions: Microsoft
Antispyware Beta 1, which is no longer distributed by Microsoft, but still
is on the filehippo site. You'll have to re-install it to be able to
un-install it easily so you can then load re-load Defender. Click that
version and when the page says Ms Antispyware 1.0.701 Beta and the file
size is 6.59 Meg then click "Download this Version."

Contrary to all the hype about Defender uninstalling MSAS, often this does
not work, as observed in reading this forum. If I had to guess, it's
possibly due to using an overly aggressive Registry Cleaner, but other
factors could be involved as well. I've always thought it was a good idea
to uninstall MSAS first, including manually deleting its registry entries,
MSAS folders, and various Giant gcas- files, before installing
Windows®Defender. And don't forget any Quarantined items that you might
need to retrieve from MSAS before you kiss it goodbye.

This posting was the best at laying it all out, unfortunately it has
disappeared. Engel had a good summary too for a manual uninstall, maybe he
can repost since I can't find his either (geesh - must be the HTML database
fiasco we had a month or so ago):

Ok guys... I found the download button at filehippo. downloaded ver 1.0.7
and installed it. When it ask if ok to install to c:\program files\microsoft
antispyware I checked for that location on my cpu before saying ok. It of
course was already there. I did the install. Program came up scanned and
asked if I wanted to install the newest updated version. I said yes. Window
pops up again to uninstall previous version. So, I uninstalled it in
add/remove. re-booted and tried to install beta2. Same window.. I then
checked add/remove again... not there. I delete c:\program files\microsoft
antiSpyware to recycle bin. Then tried to install Beta 2... same message.
now a little more history.. Before I lost beta 1 it use to sometimes come up
with 2 icon on the taskbar - like 2 version were running. Also, AOL spyware
is running on this machine and I cannot stop, disable or find a way to remove
it either.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Engel;
Thanks for the pointer to those system32 files, I couldn't locate your
reference. That HTML database snafu wiped my Copernic desktop search out
and I had to reload everything from the partially recovered HTTP forums.

Hi Dave,
