Windows won't let me delete any movies I've made with
MM2. I get a message that says that the file is being
used by another person or program. This occurs even when
MM isn't running, after I've rebooted, etc. The only way
I seem to be able to delete these files is by rebooting
to a command prompt and deleting the DOS way. But this
is a hassle.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi there,

Thats a good one!!

Assuming you know how to run Windows Explorer.... (Please excuse me if you
do)

Locate the file you wish to get rid of in the right hand pane of explorer.
Right click it and select Properties
If the file is marked as READ ONLY or HIDDEN, remove the check mark in
those boxes and close the properties box.
Right click the file and select Delete

If the above fails for any reason (One reason might be it has been opened
by another process or program)

Close down all programs

Press CTRL-ALT-DEL Do this carefully...
Look in the "Applications" tab to see if Windows Movie Maker is running.
If it is see note 1 below If not then click on the "Processes" Tab
In "Processes" look for moviemk.exe and wmm2res.dll if either are present,
right click them and END PROCESS and see note 2 below
NOTES
======
1) Movie Maker is being started, possibly, by having a shortcut to it in the
Windows Startup menu system....go there and look for it...if present simply
right click and delete it.

2) Movie maker is being started by another process. In XP I have never
bothered to learn what goes on, but, in previous version of Windows
circumstances can exist where Windows itself writes a file which it then
looks for after a reboot. If it finds the file it executes it. The file will
contain a list of programs that were running at the previous close down and
should be restarted. At the moment I have not got a clue what or where the
file is located. (I am retired and I disposed of a lot of stuff in the WPB)
There is one other possibility here, its called RUN, but I am loath to say
here how/what etc....its an entry in your registry that could have an entry
relating to Movie Maker. It is NOT likely, just possible. If you fail to
solve the problem I will email you instructions, which at your own risk you
can try out.
