Running Win 2000 Pro with all updates and NTFS file system.

I'm trying to delete some files in a directory on my hard
disk. I get "Error performing inpage operation" while
using "My Computer" and in Safe Mode Command Prompt. I
checked the File Attributes and they are all "Read". I
was able to delete other files in this directory, but
these won't go away. I tried RD, Erase, Del with
appropriate flags with no luck,

Have you tried the short file name approach? It's frequent, google for
"dir /x".

Also, you should try a CHKDSK /R and schedule it to run at boot time.

I ran chkdsk and found some errors but still get the
inpage error when trying to delete the files.

How about the short file names?

What kind of check did you run? Did it run with file data (5 stage, take a
looong time) or normal (3 stage, takes somewhere up to a minute on a normal
partition)?

Normally, inpage error is related to physical error trying to read from
the disk. I would look for a physical issue first, perhaps try a SMART test
(free software everywhere). Try to google for posts to this group related to
physical errors and SMART tests. I posted a quite comprehensive list of
things to check when disk is acting up. This includes chkdsk, SMART tests,
noise, etc.

It is possible for the CHKDSK /R to never find bad sectors on newer disks
because the way these disk behave on error sectors. However, it should go
away even without an error message. If it stays, the disk might be failing.

I found my posts (I think) here:
