can't delete browser history.

i cannot delete my browser history. under the Tools menu,
in internet options i select delete history button and it
shows the hourglass but nothing happens. I can open the
history and its still there. right clicking the today
folder and selecting delete doesn't work either. Sometimes
the history dissappears but if i close the side window and
reopen it its still there. Please help me.
