Hi, I recently started managing a Windows 2000 terminal server with about 20
users. The server is periodically hanging for all users and after examination
I found that the C: drive is almost totally fragmented. I tried running
defrag through computer management but though the task runs for a couple of
hours using about a quarter of the processing power the drive does not defrag
and defrag ends without any notifications.
I have run chkdsk and it reported errors/quits after completion of the 2nd
step and starting security descriptors. It says to run in /f mode but does
not find any problems upon reboot. The array controller reports the array
(RAID5, 4 DISK) reports the array is functioning fine.
What is the best place for me to start fixing this problem? Is there a good
utility for fixing corruption on an ntfs volume? Is there any way for me to
easily determine the problem?
Thanks,
David
