Can't create dial up connections on XP??!!

My new computer w/ Pro XP was running well with the dial-
up connections working as expected.
Then because of other reasons I reloaded (upgrade mode) XP
and now not only is there no dial-up connections, but I
can't create any using either the wizzard or manually. The
modem is installed and working properly (according to XP)
and there is no apparent conflicts w/ COM ports.
It sounds like a software issue to me, and I'd like to
avoid reformating the hd and starting over.
Thanx

The following article should correct your problem:

329441 You Cannot Create a Network Connection After You Restore Windows XP

Essentially you need to go to Windows Update and install all of the critical
updates (as well as any Recommended Updates you want). When you did the
upgrade install, the install overwrote what was on your computer with the
older files on the CD. Once you apply the updates again from Windows
Update, you should be fine.

Just brilliant microsoft; he can't connect to get the updates! You
really, really need a way to get the updates other than by being
directly online. e.g. i have more than one XP computer and just a
dial-up connection. how to i get the updates to load onto the other
computers without doing downloads for each of them (pissing away many
hours).
