Can't Create Contacts

When I click on "New Contact" or any other icon for that matter, nothing
happens. A small window appears and disappears immediately. It is only up
for a split second, but I think it is a blank box. It is not the "New
Contact" box.

Can someone help me??

Make sure you are not using incompatible third party security
software. Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee
or Norton security programs. Those will need to be
uninstalled, not just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:
http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Thanks for the help Shawn. I did what you recommended with the default
associates, but to no avail. Any other thoughts?

Marco

Thanks for the input Gary. I just bought this computer yesterday and I am
afraid to delete the programs that it came with yet. I am hoping that there
is another solution without having to resort to what you are suggesting.
Perhaps if worst comes to worst.

Shouldn't HP know not to put Norton on a Vista machine???

Something else that might be worth noting is that when I click on "import" or
"export", I get a small window with nothing in it but a red circle with an
"X" in it. No words in the window. I click"OK" to continue and the window
disappears, then I am back to square one.

Norton's incompatibility with Windows Mail is not widely known
outside our group of Windows Mail experts.

I uninstalled Norton, but the problem persists. I only had a 60 day trial of
it anyway. I'm still open to anymore ideas.

Thanks,
Marco

I tried using the "Contacts" function on another computer at the same store
as I bought mine (same model). The Contacts worked just fine. I have been
doing some additional research and some have pointed out that there may be a
conflict with Outlook 2000 which is on my machine, but not on the factory
machine. I am going to try to get the latest version of MSOffice and
uninstall Office2000. Hopefully, this will solve the problem. Many thanks
for your input.

Did Norton uninstall cleanly? Sometimes you have to use their

Yes, Office 2000 can cause problems with Windows Contacts in Vista.
Something to do with a wab.dll file, I believe. Sorry, I don't remember
the particulars.

:

Marco,

I would recommend to uninstall Norton. There has been so many problems
caused by it. You might consider using the free Avast as suggested by
Gary. I use it and had not had any problems with it.
