Can't create a Restore Point

I'm trying to create a restore point prior to installing SP2. System
Restore runs for a while and then stops responding. I've cleaned all of the
spyware, adware, etc. off of the machine.

Is the hard drive partitioned? How large is the free space on the system
partition / drive?

Have you tried running Disk Cleanup, More Options, System Restore to
remove all but the last restore point before trying to create a new
restore point?

You might try turning off System Restore on all drives, restart the
computer and then turn System Restore back on.

There's a lot of information about System Restore in this link:

In Google there are a number of seemingly unresolved cases where users
have not been able to regain the ability to create Restore points. Hope
your not another to add to the list!
