This is via the UI.

I have a client who can create a new worksheet in his workbook, move a
worksheet, but he's unable to *copy* one. It apparently fails silently. Hs
20 worksheets in the common case, but also tested for me on a 3 worksheet
workbook.

I've run out of clues. Anyone here have any ideas on things to look at?

Office 2003, WinXP.

Thanks,

Leo

I don't use xl2003, but you may want to give a few more details describing how
the client is trying to copy the sheet.

Is he using ctrl-click and drag? Or click and then Edit|Move or copy sheet (and
click that Create a Copy box) or do both ways fail?

Since it happens on brand new workbooks(?), is there any chance that he's
letting go of the ctrl key too soon?

(Silly guess, but maybe....)

Both fail. (He was doing click followed by Move or Copy..., I had him try
ctrl+click & drag with no improvment.)

Fine guess. But in his case the ctrl key isn't used, so ....

'tis a stumper.

He can't do it on any workbook?

any chance the workbook is protected? (but all of them sounds too much)

Does he get the "international no signal" (circle with a slash through it) when
he tries? If yes, then maybe it is workbook protection.

How about starting excel in safe mode:

close excel
windows start button|Run
excel /safe

And test it out.

Safe mode stops lots of things (book.xlt, macros, addins) from being loaded.

If it worked there, see if you move book.xlt out of his xlStart folder if that
helps.

(but this wouldn't affect existing workbooks not protected.)

I don't have a good guess...
