can't contol volume when logged off

Hello,
I just received my new Compaq N620c laptop. One thing
that is different from my N600c is volume control. When
the machine is logged in and locked, or is not logged in
at all, I cannot control volume using the volume up/down
buttons on the laptop. This is particularly frustrating
when logging in at the library as I cannot lower volume
before everyone within range hears the first few measures
of Beethoven's 5th, my startup wav.

Any ideas?

can you control the volume when you're loggen in using those buttons? or do
you use mouse pointer to adjust the volume control?

perhaps you need to re-install drivers for your keyboard to get support for
using these buttons? these should have come with your laptop.

Don't use a startup wav. It serves no useful purpose.

I think a simple solution would be to just set the volume at a
reasonable level before you log off or leave the computer. I think the
fact that you can't change the volume is just Windows being a pain.

That is such an obvious solution. I can't believe I didn't think of that!
