Can't connect

I have a new computer with Vista. I tried transferring files and settings
from my old computer with Windows "Easy" Transfer and it took about six
hours to work out -- but it didn't completely work out.

Windows Mail says I am "working online" and I can access newsgroups. And it
would
appear I can send e-mail. But my test e-mails to myself don't come back, and
no other e-mail is coming in either.

It also prompts me for a dial-up connection -- but I don't dial up, I have a
dsl connection to web.

Go to Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Connection,
make sure everything in that Connection screen is grayed out,
which means it will use the connection settings in Internet Explorer.

Next, go to Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Connections,
the Dial-up and VPN settings should be grayed out, meaning it
will use the LAN connection.

When you click on Send/Recv, does the progress screen come up
showing the attempt to contact the server?

Thanks. I am afraid every time I tried to click on Connection, WM --
practically brand new, out of the box, on a 2G Core Duo machine -- took up
50 per cent of my processing power and froze. Vista RC2 was actually better.

I had to delete the account and reset it completely. It works now.
