Hi:

I can't connect to the internet. I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and when I
plug in my ethernet cable I see the two little tvs in the corner, but only
one of them is lit. when I open the properties of that I see data is being
sent but none received. I have it set to detect settings automatically.

Why doesn't my PC automatically connect to the internet?

thanks.
Timothy

Try connecting the ethernet cable to your PC, THEN starting it up. If the
cable is not attached, the PC can't detect anything automatically because it
can't communicate. Then it sets itself up as a stand-alone (IP address
169.254.x.x) and, since whatever your connecting to is (probably) on
192.168.x.x the PC won't see it.

As an alternate, you can try connecting the ethernet cable then, from
Command Prompt enter IPCONFIG /Renew <hit Enter>. Your best bet would be to
keep the cable attached to the PC.
