Hi,
whenever I connect new hardware to the pc (xp pro sp2) the hardware wizard
appears and fails to find a driver when I select the automatic search. But,
usually if I can find the inf file on the cd then I can force that file to be
used by the wizard by specifying that location.

Now I've got a new mp3 player and an external hard disk and neither can be
installed automatically by the hardware wizard but neither has an xp driver
on the cd that accompanies the hardware. In fact the external hard drive
doesn't even have any cd.

How can I get plug&play to work for memory devices or failing that where is
the inf file and what is it called?

Thanks, Tom

The answer is - force the wizard to install from c:\windows\inf
