Can't connect to the network

On my XP desktop I suddenly can't connect to the network. If I do a system
restore I can connect but all my profile information is lost (desktop.
settings) etc. etc.
Don't see anything in the event viewer except for a CI index corruption
message that seems unrelated. Having no luck determining what DLL or system
setting might be the issue. The devices say they are working fine. Intel Pro
wireless software doesn't even know about the wireless card so something is
really up. Since I get connectivity back with the restore I know that
something happened but I need some direction on how to find it. Both my
wireless and my broafband card are affected. Would ask my desktop guys to
help but they will want to reimage and that is just as bad as a system
restore.

Thanks in advance.

This is just a quick stab in the dark - If you are running zonealarm you need
to reduce the security level, then download the newest version that fixes the
MS patch that was issued on 7/8/2008

Thanks for the reply Tony. Turns out my TCPIP stack must have somehow gotten
corrupted. I followed some suggestions found in this group such as
recreating the catalog and reinstalling tcpip and it worked.

Thanks again
