I have a wireless network (802.11b) and everything works
fine except that I can't connect to the internet on my
wireless laptop running XP.

Darryn,

Could you describe how you have your wireless network setup (physical
network setup and software settings) and what wireless card you have on your
laptop and how you tried to connect to the Internet.

I have the same problem as Darryn so may I piggyback the Q&A please?
My wireless network is also peer to peer - one machine is a laptop
with the OEM version of XP Pro and built in wirelss networking and the
other is a desktop which I upgraded from Win2k to XP Pro. The desktop
has a 56k modem attached to COM1, printer on LPT1 and a D-Link
wireless USB adapter. Works fine including wireless access to
printer.
On the desktop I set the dial up connection (Properties, Advanced tab)
checking all three boxes at Internet Connection Sharing (Allow other
network users to connect. . .; Establish a dial-up connection . . ;
Allow other network users to control. . ). I figure this makes it the
ICS host and the moment I set up the desktop I can see the connection
at the lap top as an Internet Gateway in the Network Connections
display in Control Panel. However, IE6 will not 'see' the connection
even though it causes the desktop to dial up and establish the
connection. I've tried various LAN setting options in IE6 on the
laptop but I'm shooting in the dark so would greatly appreciate some
'light'.
Thanks in anticipation

Darryn, Matt - since posting a "I have that problem too" message a few
hours ago I solved my problem. The gateway or host computer for
Intenet Connection Sharing was running Zone Alarms Pro firewall
software. Access to the internet from the client laptop was enabled
once I turned off Zone Alarm on the gateway machine. Then I found the
correct solution in Zone Alarm which is to designate it as an ICS
gateway. The clue to the answer was that the client seemed to be
resolving the address and then came up with a page not found right at
the end and at the same time Zone Alarm at the host crowed in triumph
that it had blocked something! Hope this helps you track down your
problem.

Matt,
The internet connection is a cable modem connected to a
Linksys BEFW11S4 router/access point. My Win98SE machine
is connected into port 1 on the router - this machine
works fine. My laptop is running XP - wireless card is
Linksys WPC11. I can ping my 98 machine from the laptop
and vise versa but I can't ping the router or DNS server
or any internet server from the laptop
