On two new computers, one web site (possibly others but only one so far)
cannot be accessed whilst others appear OK. I have checked that there is no
proxy server set and I have also checked that no entries have been added to
a hosts file. I have also ensured that all settings have been set to
defaults. The web site in question can be accessed on an old machine in the
same location. The only difference between the two systems is that the old
machine is connected to an ISDN line and the two new machines share a router
and are connected to an ADSL line. The router is acting as a DHCP server
and there are no firewall rules setup as yet.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Colin

I had the same problem with some web sites (like
hotmail.com, yahoo mail inbox, Windows Update site etc.).
The fix was to decrease the MTU of my DSL model. Download
DrTCP (available here http://www.dslreports.com/drtcp) to
try a lower MTU setting (like 1400) for your modem. Let
the group know if this fixes your prolem.

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS
