I searched the message base and found one email similar to
mine, but he was saying he could get the urls from his
host but not from his client.

Now, my setup is peer-to-peer with a DSL (Actiontec
1524) "modem". The re is one url that only I have trouble
getting to, and it is a site for one of my company's
benefits. At least I can use one of the other computers
on the network. The other URL is one that none of the
computes on my home network can get at. Both these URL's
give back the message "Can't find server of DNS error."

Now, I can get at both these sites at work behind my
company's firewall. I have my configuration here at home
set the same way as my machine at work. As all our
computers at home are set.

I have all the latest downloads, patches and upgrades to
IE, so I'm at a loss as to how to "fix" this.

Thank you;

Hate to follow up on my own post, but does anyone read
these things? I find it hard to belive that my question
has been languishing here since December 20, and there
have no replies to it - not even an "already answered"
reply.

I would *really* like to get this figured out, or lacking
that type of info, how I can get IE completely removed so
I can reinstall it (since it appears that just
reinstalling from the XP Pro CD does nothing to help...).

Thank you once again in advance, and Happy New Year!

You don't provide enough details for anyone to help.

What URL's? Which ones work? Which ones don't work. What is the exact
error message?

quoted form http://www.ChicagoTech.net
Can't access some web sitesSymptoms: 1) If you're using MS ICS or Windows
server as router to access the Internet, your clients may not be able to
access certain web sites. However, the ICS host or the server doesn't have
this problem.
2) After installed a new router or cable modem replacing dial-up to access
the Internet, you can't access some web sites.
3) You also find that most web sites you can't access are block to ping or
they are security sites using HTTPS.

Causes: 1) The problem occurs because many web servers block ICMP messages
and the packets are dropped. As a result, the requested web site doesn't
load.
2) This problem is caused also by an incompatible MTU networking setting.
You may try to install the latest SP. If you use MS ICS, you may want to
configure all your Client computers to use the new, lower MTU as the default
for all Internet communication. To modify the MTU size, locate the following
registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SYSTEM\ CurrentControlSet\ Services\
Tcpip\ Parameters\ Interfaces. If you use a router like Cisco DSL Router,
you may want to adjusting the PPPoE MTU Size. For example, to adjusting the
PPPoE MTU Size on the Cisco DSL Router, do

interface ethernet0
no shut
ip address <ip address> <subnet mask>
ip adjust-mss 1452

Apparently my original message got snipped.

It follows:

Now,the URLs are:
http://sirtf.caltech.edu/index.shtml

(I'm not quite sure why that is a "shtml"; there is no
login page or anything like that - as you'll see when you
check it out...

and

http://www.metlife.com/dental/
which converts to:
http://www.metlife.com/Applications/Corporate/WPS/CDA/PageG
enerator/0,1674,P2682,00.html

ICS is disabled since my modem has a built-in firewall,
and I must (and everyone else on my home network) access
the other computers on that home network.

So, as I say, I'm at a loss.

Thank you for the response.
