I have a peer-to-peer LAN of 4 PC's connected to a Netgear hub/router. The
PC's share a cable connection to the internet and it all seems to work fine.
One PC is running XP Professional, 2 are XP home and one is Win 2000. My
problem is that only one machine (XP Pro) can connect to my ISP's mail and
news servers. The other machines return "Server not found" messages when
attempting to connect to mail or news. All machines connect normally to
websites.

I have ensured that Zone Alarm is disabled and have checked that all
settings are correct.

Is there something I am overlooking? Thanks for any advice....

Confirm connectivity to the mail/news server by issuing a "ping" command
from the command prompt, e.g.

ping pop.ispname.com
ping smtp.ispname.com
ping news.ispname.com

where you replace the obvious with your own POP, SMTP, and News servers.
You should get a "reply". If no reply, then something wrong with
network connectivity, e.g. the firewall or something is blocking the
traffic.

If you get reply, then look again carefully that you have the right
server names configured in the non-functioning machines, e.g. POP server
to POP config (receiving mail), SMTP for receiving mail.
