I have a desktop computer and a laptop computer networked together. The
desktop is running XP home, the laptop Pro.

Both computers see the other one in the "view workgroup computers" and my
laptop can access my desktop, but when I try to access the laptop from the
desktop I get an error message stating that my laptop is unavailable and I
might not have permission to access that resource.

Why is this and how can I fix it?

Sounds like permission issue. You may want to create the same username with
the same password on both computers.

Access issues"computername is not accessible. No permission to access the
resources" ... Message: "....is not accessible. You may not have permission
to use this network ...

Didn't work, now I get a message saying the network path was not found on
BOTH computers instead of access denied on one

Never mind on the network path not found, I just had to re-share the folders.
Both computers have the same user name, neither one with a password, and I
can still access the desktop (xp home) remotely, but can't access the laptop
(xp pro).

I'm having the same problem.
I run WinXP, Win98 and Debian Linux systems here at home.
I recently tried to look at a shared disk on one of the
Linux systems:

My Network Places => View Workgroup computers

and I get "Workgroup is not accessible. You might not
have permission to access this network resource." and
"Your account is not authorized."

What's odd is that I can access XP's shared folders from
Win98 and Linux, and both XP userids I tried are defined
as Administrators.

I probably haven't tried to do this since I upgraded from
32-bit XP to XP Pro 64, so I'm not sure when it started.

Any ideas? Maybe there are some userid things I didn't
set up.
