Can't connect at new host with FP

We have a group of people who maintain a web site with FrontPage. Most
of us logon make simple changes and then save it directly to the host
server without any 3rd party FTP software. It has worked great for us.

We are in the process of moving the site to a new host. I spent a good
deal of time, using WS_FTP, transferring the files to my personnal
computer from our "old host" and then uploading those files from my
personnal computer to our "new host".

The new host indicates that FrontPage extensions are installed.

When I try to connect to the new host with FrontPage, I get no request
for a login and none of the files display in Folder view.

What did I do wrong?

Hi Scanham,

Try opening the web on the old host and then publishing to the new host.

Hi Mike,

I will give that a try, but first a couple more questions.

Should I first delete all the files that I transferred already to the
new host?

We have some folders and file names that were created over time that
have "spaces". The publishing wizard does not like that and makes me
rename them. Is there a way around this?

Thanks,
Steve

There should not be any need provide the FPSE on the remote system is intact.

I believe Jimco has a utility to change all files and folder to acceptable names.

Hi Mike,

When I publish the site using the http address, I get this message:

---------------------------
Microsoft FrontPage
---------------------------
The server you are publishing to does not have the FrontPage Server
Extensions installed, and therefore does not support publishing via
HTTP. To continue publishing, specify a location that will work with
FTP.
---------------------------
OK Cancel
---------------------------

The host (GoDaddy) says that the server extensions are installed. I am
able to publish using the FTP address, but still, when I try to connect
to the new host with FrontPage, I get no request for a login and none
of the files display in Folder view.

Thanks,
Steve

Your FTP has corrupted the FP SE
- have your host repair / reapply them

You should never FTP a site to a FP SE site

I talked to GoDaddy support and got this from him:

-------------------------------------------
Uninstall frontpage extensions

before re-installing fp extensions

ftp://domainname.com to look at the site ...

delete any files referencing _vti
delete any file referencing htacess

then re-install fp extensions

then try to publish

On our latest call to GoDaddy, we were told that we had to wait until
we updated the DNS server and that we couldn't HTTP publish to an IP
address. There are references to this problem in this newgroup for
host that have numerous sites using the same IP address.

Get a decent host
- obviously you don't have one now
