A friend just purchased a new PC with WinXP Home
preinstalled. We are trying to install a broadband
internet connection using a cable modem. All hardware
seems fine, but when we try to load the ISP's software, we
get an error that "WorkFlowHarnessExecutable Application
has encountered a problem and must shut down". We have
contacted the OEM of the PC and they recommend a complete
system reinstall. Has anybody else had this problem and,
if so, can you make any recommendations? Thanks!!

What ISP are you using? Most cable connections do not require any software
to be installed - all configurations can be done manually. Installing their
software just takes up extra space on your computer, hijacks the title bar
of OE and IE, and just generally isn't needed. YOu jsut have to set your
default gateway, set your NIC to DHCP (usually - some cable ISPs have static
IPs), set your mask. It can all be done from one screen, and is generally
just as easy (in your case, even easier) as installing their software.

In some cases they do.

Some ISPs (which are powered using Motive Internet software) use some client
tools which offer a "customized" configuration, managment and support
experience.
