Can't Complete the RC1 Installation

I am unable to finish the installation and get to the login screen or
desktop. The finishing installation process seems to go well, but after the
system restarts, all i get is a blank screen or blinking cursor. There is
hard drive activity for a few seconds, then nothing. I am using the Intel
975XBXLKR motherboard and Conroe E6400 CPU. Everything is at stock speeds. Up
to the point where the system hangs, the whole process is only about 35-40
mins. I am doing a fresh install from the downloaded 64 bit ISO. Any help
would be appreciated.

Same problem here-swaping my nVidia FX5500 with a very old nVidia MX400 video
card allowed me to finish the install in 5600 but the still FX5500 wouldn't
run. Build 5728 wouldn't install either but the FX5500 would run after
install with the MX400. I'm guessing you probably can't boot into safe mode-
"install not complete" error message? When your screen goes blank there are
still several steps left to finish the install, username, etc. Try a
different video card-I talked to an Intel user who had the same problem as
you with onboard (non-nVidia) video. Good luck.

Dear David & John,
I too am having the same problem as you
concerning the first boot after a fresh install. It just is a black screen
with a flashing cursor in the top left hand corner. If you wait long enough
it actually comes up with a blue screen and quickly reboots itself before I
get to read it. Think it was at least 40 minutes before it did that. Anyway
I too had no problems with previous versions up until RC1 or the newer build
5728. I have quite an old AMD Athlon XP 3200+ with Abit board with 2.5GB
RAM. I have a Nvidia N6800 512mb AGP graphic card.
I would be most greatful if you come across any information on how to
resolve this as it is really is getting annoying.

Regards

Martyn
