Can't close windows messenger

I have Windows XP Home. Whenever I open Outlook Express, Windows Messenger
gets automatically launched. After I then close Outlook Express, I can't
exit Windows Messenger. It claims 'there are other applications still using
features from messenger'.

Any thoughts?

Greetings Christian,

You can stop Windows Messenger from loading with Outlook Express, by closing Outlook Express,
then downloading and running this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/stopmessenger_oe.reg
You may need to reboot to see the change.

Hi Christian,
Are you using Norton AntiVirus? If yes, go to norton's options, Instant
messenger and uncheck the MSN Instant messenger (recommended) box. That
solved my problem...

I have a similar question/problem. I would like to

either remove Windows Messenger all together, or if that
is not possible, dissable it permantntly. I causes
problems because it makes it look like Internet Explorer
is loaded when it isn't and therefore I cannot do some
clean up using Norton Utilities. Also, I just do not
want it on the computer.
How can I do this?
