Can't close programes without using task manager

Rookie

This is driving me mad. I know very little about pc's. I
have had this one for about 16 months and every web page
I visit I cannot close a window / programme without using
task manager then reconnecting to the internet. It never
used to be like this and I cant find any help in the
usual places.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
