When I boot to windows, I can open icons on the desktop, but when I move the
cursor down to the taskbar, it's an hourglass and i can't click anything
down there.

I can't access to the internet using dialup or DSL.

I'm running a small home network using a hub to connect multiple computers.
My XP box is giving me many problems.

How do you format XP? 98 is easy (boot disk, Dos, fdisk, format, setup),
but I'm not all that familiar with XP. I can't get a dos prompt, I don't
know how to format. I did load boot disks and got to the partition screen.
I really don't want to format yet, I'd like to restore to a previous version
of windows from a couple days ago and continue troubleshooting from there if
anyone knows how. I can't just use the F8 default option and restore to
previous working version b/c windows loads now.

That puter has a lot of problems, but mainly I think I just need to restore
to a previous version, then figure out how to get it online.

I may call microsoft and pay the money for assistance if nobody can help.

thanks

I'm having the same problem. Occured 2 days ago after installing a firewire board and Pinnacle Studio 8. removing board and uninstalling the program does'nt work. F8 did work however. I'm wondering if it is virus related. Seems to affect the explorer.exe. haven't found solution yet.
