Stupid question on my part perhaps -- we had a customer come in with
four systems he wanted wiped and reloaded. Two of them are built
around Asus MEW motherboards, and both have bootup/CMOS passwords.
So, I did the usual thing -- unplugged the system, even pulled the
motherboard battery (although leaving it in didn't help either) and
shorted the two solder points labeled CLRTC. No dice;
date/time/password are still intact. The bloody CMOS refuses to
clear.
Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

If Bill Gates had a dime for every time a Windows box
crashed... oh, wait. He does.
