When I went to check out a document and then
created/edited the page and I tried to check it in, it had
created a locked page that I could not check in. I found
the article describing the problem at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;823744&Product=fp2002
It said to contact a support pro for a support fix, but, I
can't find a way to do that and I need the patch! I keep
editing pages and eventually I won't be able to at all.
HELP!!!

As a workaround:

1. Close the Web in Frontpage.
2. Use Windows Explorer to display the folder that
contains the locked file.
3. Again using Windows Explorer, open the _vti_cnf
subfolder.
4. Use Notepad to open the _vti_cnf file with the same
name as the locked file.
5. Delete the three lines that look like this:

vti_sourcecontrolmultiuserchkoutby:VR|domain\\\\buyensj
vti_sourcecontrolcheckedoutby:SR|domain\\buyensj
vti_sourcecontroltimecheckedout:TR|15 Oct 2003 21:01:35 -
0000

6. Open the Web in FrontPage.
7. Make your changes and save.

Or just Unselect document check in (releases all pages) then turn it back on

I followed what you instructed and there is no _vti_cnf
file or folder. What now? And, can't Microsoft just direct
me to the patch that fixes the problem???

It has to be Windows Explorer, not FrontPage, and "Show Hidden Files
And Folders" must be turned on.

I offered the workaround because I thought you were trying to
avoid opening a (paid) service incident in order to get the fix.

"Spot" fixes such as this are frequently not fully regression-tested,
and may interfere with other spot fixes. They only get rolled together
and fully tested at the time of a full service release. This is why
Microsoft sometimes wants a support engineer to work with you for
installing the fix.
