Can't change the properties on a directory

Its driving me crazy.

I have a directory that always has read-only checked on my laptop.
Its not white and checked, but grey and checked, like I had multiple
things selected with differet properties.

I've tried to uncheck it as a power user and as administrator. Nothing
works. It will uncheck, then when I check the properties again, it will
be checked again.
 
RO on a directory is irrelevant and can not be altered via explorer. All the
RO check box on the directory properties sheet does is allow you to change
the RO attribute of files enmasse. If you really think that changing the RO
attribute on a directory will affect anything (outside of one app that I'm
aware of and can not presently remember the name), then use the attrib
command.

No, it isn't really read-only. The read-only flag has no meaning
for folders. When you look at that check box, it can have three
settings: on (black check), off (empty box), and not applicable
(gray check). Folders have that gray check mark.
